Ken Burns, king of PBS documentaries, is putting on a live show and taking it on the road. He needs help from young people who have talent with a country twang.
Public television station KVPT — ValleyPBS — has extended the deadline for a talent search that will put dancers, singers, musicians (or a combination thereof) ages 5 to 17 on stage for “Ken Burns’s Country Music Roadshow.”
The event, which will make stops in Fresno and Bakersfield in July as part of a 30-city tour, is a warmup for Burns’ upcoming documentary, “Country Music,” which traces the roots of the uniquely American genre.
Burns will take questions at the events, which also will feature a screening of the documentary. The Valley stops are scheduled for July 25 at Saroyan Theatre and July 26 at Bakersfield’s Fox Theater.
Up to 3 Country Acts Per Show will be Chosen
The submission deadline for the young talent was extended two weeks to June 30. The children must live in Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Merced, Kings, Mariposa or Kern county. Applicants must submit a video or audio file to events@valleypbs.org.
Judges will select up to three acts for each event. Equipment used in auditions must be pre-approved by ValleyPBS. Read more terms and conditions here.
Winners will receive a $100 Target gift card and two tickets to one of the shows.
