A Valley toddler born without abdominal muscles needed an online angel when one of his kidneys began to fail. It appears the child has found a donor in Fresno through Facebook.
The 2-year-old’s mother, Mandy Perry, announced the breakthrough on a Facebook page created for and named after her son, Kaleb.
“We found out a couple days ago that Kaleb has a living donor,” Perry wrote in a May 9 post on the page, called A Miracle for Kaleb. “We are excited and absolutely terrified at the same time.”
The living donor, referred to in Perry’s post only as “Susie,” has been following Kaleb’s story online. The transplant surgery is scheduled for May 28 at Stanford Medical Center.
Toddler Has Rare Genetic Condition
“We feel so blessed to have found this perfect donor for Kaleb, and let me tell you, she is an amazing person,” wrote Perry, who lives in Kingsburg with her husband and son.
Kaleb’s rare genetic condition is referred to as prune belly syndrome, because the lack of abdominal muscles tend to cause the skin to wrinkle. Urinary tract complications are common with the condition.
A fundraising event for Kaleb’s family is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 22 at Spirit Horse Connections, 12099 E. Stroud Ave. in Kingsburg. Proceeds will help cover the expense of a long stay for the family in Palo Alto after the surgery.
