NEW YORK — Fox News says host Kimberly Guilfoyle has left the network, amid reports that she’s about to take on a new role with a super PAC supporting President Donald Trump’s agenda.
A Fox spokeswoman confirmed her departure Friday. Guilfoyle has been one of the co-hosts of the network’s afternoon show “The Five” and has been dating Trump’s son Donald Jr. She was considered for White House press secretary last year after Sean Spicer departed the administration.
A person familiar with the plans who was not authorized to speak publicly about them said Guilfoyle will be joining America First PAC, which has been promoting Trump’s record.
Guilfoyle, a former prosecutor, was married for four years to California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Reports Say Guilfoyle Forced Out
CNN reported that Guilfoyle put Fox News in an ethical dilemma earlier this year when she started dating Donald Trump Jr., President Trump’s son. As a co-host of “The Five,” Guilfoyle was regularly involved in on-air discussions about Trump, putting her in a spot where conflicts of interest issues arose on a near-daily basis. Guilfoyle’s last appearance on “The Five” was last Tuesday.
The network issued a short response about Guilfoyle’s departure: “Fox News has parted ways with Kimberly Guilfoyle.”
In addition, Howard Kurtz, who covers the media industry for Fox News, tweeted this:
Kimberly Giulfoyle will not be back on the air at Fox. The one-sentence statement by the network suggests to me that this was a difficult parting.
