Joey Chestnut can scarf down 74 hotdogs in 10 minutes. I’m thinking of doing something more practical.

Today is July 11, 7-11. And the store with the same name, 7-Eleven, is giving away free Slurpees. It is the convenience-store chain’s 91st birthday.
The small-sized slush drink will be available at the 25 stores in Fresno and Clovis between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. while supplies last.

My Challenge

In a story I’ve been pitching for a while, I am taking the Slurpee Challenge. I will attempt to grab one Slurpee from each of those locations. My drinks will be 25 (gulp!) of the 9 million Slurpees 7-Eleven estimates it will pour today.
How can I say no to a bit of Americana? A nice cool Slurpee on 104-degree day! What can be better?
The exotic new flavor this year is Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berry. I’m sure it will taste like liquefied cereal. I’ll try to imbibe in as many flavors as possible.
Will I survive the Slurpee Challenge? What happens first — my brain freezing or teeth rotting?
Follow me on Twitter to see how this wild goose chase ensues.

Update: As of noon today, I have visited seven of the 25 locations. Just 18 more to go. My favorite flavor so far: Coca-Cola.
