As the weather cools each holiday season, a devoted group of volunteers comes together in Fresno to help others around the world.
Kristina Garabedian was inspired by a book she once read to start Shoebox Sharing. For more than 15 years now, the non-profit has delivered thousands of school packs, medical supplies and blankets to those in need.
“It takes over my home for 2 months,” Garabedian says with a smile.
Most of the recipients, Garabedian says, “are abused kids or in really bad situations. It’s filling a great need in our community and around the world.”
Today, the group spends the weeks after Thanksgiving joyfully hand-crafting fleece fabric into soft, warm blankets. Children in Armenia are among those who benefit from the annual effort.
“It takes over my home for 2 months,” Garabedian says with a smile. She emphasizes that it would simply not be possible without generous donor and volunteers.
The hard work may have ended for this year, but the joy that Shoebox Sharing delivers goes on an on.
