The Measure X school bond for Fresno Unified continues to be one of this local election’s more contentious issues. Superintendent Michael Hanson has strongly advocated for its passage to help improve infrastructure projects in the district’s 100+ campuses. Schools Not Scams, led by Fresno Unified Trustee Brooke Ashjian, says the bond is not needed, at least not now anyway. Ads are running on the radio. Signs are posted on front lawns.

GV Wire took a tour of one school that is in very much need of improvements. Del Mar Elementary, on Ashlan west of Blackstone, is nearly 60 years old. There are visible cracks in the foundation. Temporary facilities outnumber permanent classrooms.  Assistant Superintendent Alex Belanger estimates it will take $5-8 million to get Del Mar into shape. Watch (above) as he guided us around campus.

The animal was around 2 ½ feet long (80 cm) and its feet has long fingers and claws, which are visible in newly discovered fossil footprints. (Marcin Ambrozik/Prof. Per Erik Ahlberg via AP)
