A mobile Disaster Recovery Center to help storm victims is open in the Merced County community of Planada at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Planada is where residents experienced flooding during the recent wave of intense storms. At the center, those affected by the storms can update their FEMA applications and learn about state and community programs and other available assistance.

Interpreters Are on Site

Specialists at the mobile recovery center can clarify information applicants may have received from FEMA or other agencies. The specialists also can explain the rental assistance available to homeowners and renters, and they can fax requested documents to a FEMA processing center and scan or copy new information or documents needed for case files

To ensure that everyone gets the help they need, the center has assisted listening devices, magnifiers, video remote interpreting, and language interpreters, including American Sign Language.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church is at 9317 Amistad Street. The disaster recovery center’s hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Following days of rain, floodwaters surround homes and vehicles in the Planada community of Merced County, Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023. (AP File)
