The embattled Fresno State professor who was revealed to make derogatory tweets about President Donald Trump is on an indefinite paid leave.
In an e-mail sent by university president Joseph Castro to students, faculty and staff, Castro says that Maischak will no longer teach, but will remain in a researching role off campus.
Maischak made the controversial posts on his since-deleted Twitter account in February, calling for Trump to “hang.” He has since apologized. Last week, the school announced that Maischak’s classes scheduled for Monday and Tuesday were canceled.
The full e-mail:
As a follow up to my message last week, I write to inform you that Fresno State and History lecturer Dr. Lars Maischak have agreed upon a voluntary leave of absence for him for the remainder of the spring semester, effective immediately.
The agreement for the paid leave was reached in accordance with provisions in the collective bargaining agreement with the California Faculty Association. During his leave of absence, Dr. Maischak will no longer have a teaching role, but will be conducting research off campus.
Substitute faculty have been assigned to his five History 11 classes for the remainder of the semester so that students’ academic success is ensured.
The University’s review of this important matter continues.
Sincerely,
Joseph I. Castro, Ph.D., M.P.P.
President
There is no word yet about the status of police investigations into Maischak’s remarks.
