Community Medical Centers require more than doctors and nurses to keep their hospitals running smoothly.
“It allows us to do more realistic scenario training which is the goal of our program.” — Institute of Technology Instructor Scott Sobel
Security guards are necessary, too.
CMC made a donation Wednesday — not only to the futures of aspiring students but to the future of their security force.
The gift of a security car to the Institute of Technology in Clovis gives students and instructors a valuable training tool. IOT officials say it’s a big upgrade over some of the makeshift vehicles they’ve had to use.
Preparing Future Students
Instructors say they’ve had times of such desperation they’ve had to use golf carts to train students.
Now, the training can be a more realistic experience.
“It will allow us to better prepare our students when they get into the workforce,” says Institute of Technology instructor Scott Sobel. “It allows us to do more realistic scenario training which is the goal of our program.”
IOT prepares students for the critical role of ensuring public safety during a crime or a crisis through a degree in Criminology and Emergency Response Management (CERM).
For more than 30 years, it has trained people for entry-level jobs in criminal justice, culinary, medical, and technical fields.
Donated Car Worth More Than Money
Sobel says, “This is probably something we wouldn’t be able to do without the generosity of Community Medical Centers.”
CMC didn’t have a value available for the car, but says it was retired, still works, and has all the equipment the students need to be familiar with.
“This school really prepared me for CRMC with hands-on combative situations, pat-downs, and search and seizures.” — Alfred Corpus, IOT graduate and CRMC security officer
Community Medical Centers Hires Students
Community hires security officers from this program. One grateful student shared his experience.
Alfred Corpus graduated from the program and is a Security Officer 2 at CRMC.
“This school really prepared me for CRMC with hands-on combative situations, pat-downs, and search and seizures,” said Corpus.
CMC partnered with IOT about two years ago. In that time, CMC has been invited to review the institute’s training curriculum several times.
