With temperatures expected above 105 degrees through the weekend, the city of Fresno is opening eight new cooling centers — bringing the total to 12 — for this heatwave.

People needing transportation to the cooling centers can ride FAX buses for free. The centers are open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“Our goal in serving all of the community is ensuring that cooling centers are available to residents in every part of Fresno,” mayor Jerry Dyer said. “We hope that by offering 12 cooling centers during the heatwave that more people will take advantage of them.”

In addition, two community pools and five learner pools provide free swimming.

Other Valley communities have cooling centers as well. Click on this link to find the cooling center closest to you in PG&E’s service area.
