Marcy Masumoto, a candidate for Area 4 on the Fresno County Board of Education, believes she has the experience needed to replace Delbert Cederquist.
Cederquist has endorsed Masumoto as his successor for Area 4, which covers the southern part of Fresno County.
Narinder “Nick” Sahota will appear on the ballot, but he told GV Wire that he has pulled out of the race.
Masumoto holds a doctorate in education and has worked in the field for 40 years.
She has served two terms as a trustee on Sanger Unified’s school board. Masumoto also participated in county and state-level school board associations, and educational leadership institutes.
Masumoto said she is ready to apply her experience at the county level.
“With complex challenges faced by schools and students at this time, I want to take my experience and expertise and apply it to a broader, countywide scale,” Masumoto said.

Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims and Former Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Larry Powell are among her endorsements.
If elected, Masumoto said she will work to ensure that all students have multiple options and opportunities to succeed, including those in special education, court schools and career technology programs.
“I will work to strengthen educational systems to support all students and eliminate achievement gaps with responsible use of public funds, and effectively represent the residents of the towns and rural areas in Area 4,” Masumoto said.
The Issues
Her top priorities include:
— High quality teachers and rigorous instruction for all students
— Early literacy
— College and career readiness
— Safe and healthy school environments
— Access to health, mental health, internet, and other needed support services
