A virtual meeting is scheduled this evening for a mixed-use project proposed just west of Shaw and Blackstone avenues in Fresno.

According to Jessica Hoff-Berzac, president of real estate development firm UPholdings, her company is working with affordable housing firm Housing on Merit to create the development on the corner of Shaw and Glenn avenues to help revitalize the Blackstone area. The five-story, 135,000-square-foot project is dubbed the Glenn Project and would include housing and a primary health care center. It is estimated to come at a cost of around $50.7 million.

A change.org petition opposing the project has gathered over 500 signatures. Organizers say the size and density of the housing project is not compatible with adjacent single family neighborhoods.

Edward Erganian, principal for Las Vegas-based NAC Development Co., is leasing the land. The Erganian family also owns property on the northwest corner of Blackstone and Shaw avenues, where an 8,000-square-foot shopping center is also being developed.
