The Orange County Register
A developer sued the city of La Habra for more than $100 million last week for blocking the conversion of an unprofitable golf course into a 443-home housing and commercial development.
Lennar Homes, the nation’s second-largest homebuilder, is seeking a court order overturning La Habra’s November vote blocking its Rancho La Habra project on the Westridge Golf Club. The suit also seeks to invalidate the initiative approved in November, known as Measure X, requiring voter approval of changes to “open space” zones. Citizens approved the measure by a 75% margin.
Lennar wants “just compensation” for business losses caused by La Habra’s alleged delay tactics, fees for studies and for an “illegal taking,” or the virtual appropriation of private property.
