Last July, Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. officials said 200 of its namesake stores were expected to close over the next two years, accounting for approximately 21% of its Bed Bath & Beyond stores.
A company spokeswoman said Tuesday that by the end of February, the company expects to have completed around 60% of the closures, which is about 120 stores.
Nine California locations are among those being shuttered, including stores in Turlock and Gilroy.
Macy’s is also closing over a hundred stores, with 45 locations set to permanently close their doors by the middle of the year, according to CNBC
The department store chain announced in February 2020 that it planned to cut 2,000 jobs and close one-fifth of its stores over the next couple of years. Macy’s closed approximately 30 stores last year.
Two California stores are included in the company’s latest round of closings, one in El Cajon and another in Richmond, according to a CNBC report Wednesday.
