Steven Ray Martin, 39, of Bakersfield, admitted to burglarizing eight Valley post offices, Acting U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced in a news release on Friday.
When he is sentenced, Martin faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
According to court documents, Martin went on a burglary spree in December 2018 that causes thousands of dollars in damage. He stole cash registers, packages containing clothes, and other mail during the post office break-ins in Kern, Kings, and Tulare counties.
When authorities captured him in January 2019, he possessed a postal key and hundreds of pieces of stolen mail, according to a federal grand jury indictment.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Barton is prosecuting the case.
