SAN FRANCISCO — A television crew reporting on San Francisco’s auto break-in epidemic by secretly recording a suspect breaking into a “bait car” also fell victim to a vehicle burglar who broke into the crew’s van and stole their video equipment.
The syndicated news show Inside Edition aired the episode Wednesday, showing video of both burglaries.
The clip shows a couple breaking into the bait car, stealing a purse and speaker that each contained GPS tracking devices. Reporter Lisa Guerrero followed the couple, who split up in a subway station. She followed and confronted the man, who dropped the speaker and fled. The purse was found in a nearby trash can.
While interviewing a neighbor whose surveillance camera also recorded the initial break-in, the crew’s SUV was burglarized.
