Clinica Sierra Vista is hitting the streets of Fresno to provide comprehensive medical care for homeless people.
The “Healthcare for the Homeless: Street Medicine” officially launched Tuesday.
Recognizing the Worth of Every Person
“Having consistent access to healthcare is so important, especially for the most vulnerable members of our community who don’t have a home,” said Cecilia Scott, the program administrator.
“This program is about more than just medical services — it’s about recognizing the worth of every person and making sure they feel valued. We’re really excited about this program and all the good it’s going to do for our community.”
Clinica Sierra Vista’s street medical team will go into encampments, providing primary and urgent care, specialized treatments, and harm reduction. It also provides support services such as housing navigation, assistance with social security applications, and links to community resources for the homeless.
By conducting intensive street outreach and case management services for unhoused individuals, the team will ensure that patients obtain needed treatments. These include medication-assisted treatment for opioid abuse, hepatitis C treatment, wound care, and HIV care.
Clinica Sierra Vista, established in 1971 and serving nearly 200,000 community members, put together the program with state grants.
Donations Sought
The Bakersfield-based medical services provider says it welcomes donations of clothing, food, hygiene supplies, wound care supplies, and dog food.
The street medicine team asks that anyone who encounters a homeless person in need of help call (559) 273-1397.
