After dropping less than a quarter inch of rain on Fresno over the weekend, the remnant of Tropical Storm Hilary is expected to deliver a similar amount Monday, the National Weather Service in Hanford said this morning.

However, the NWS warns that thunderstorms are possible because of thermal instability.

On Saturday night, Michael Bruno of Fresno tweeted a video of the unusual weather conditions created by Hilary.

Also on Saturday night, Cris Monahan Bremer videoed strong winds rocking her northwest Fresno neighborhood.

Power Outages

Rain and strong wind gusts kept PG&E crews busy on Sunday restoring power throughout Fresno County.

The biggest outage occurred in central Fresno after a power pole malfunctioned near West Shields and North West avenues early Sunday morning. However, power was restored by early afternoon.

On Monday, the PG&E outage center showed large pockets of customers without power east and northeast of Sanger and south of Kerman.

There are also several neighborhoods in central Fresno dealing with the loss of power.

The PG&E outage map is at this link.

Nice Weather Ahead

As the storm exits the San Joaquin Valley, dry conditions will re-emerge, although some showers could hit the Sierra Nevada on Thursday and Friday.

While sparing Fresno of dangerous weather, Hilary drenched the Kern County desert and mountains with 3 to 5 inches of rain. Flooding is expected to impact those areas, as well as the Southern Sierra and foothill locations in the southernmost regions of the Valley.

Starting Wednesday and continuing through at least Sunday, Fresno area residents can expect afternoon highs between 93 and 97 degrees, with overnight lows ranging from the high 60s to the low 70s, according to the NWS forecast.
