Realtors Return to 'Old Way' as Database Downed by Possible Cyberattack

Fresno Realtors are going old school to let each other know what properties are available. The database that usually communicates that information has been down since Wednesday.

The Multiple Listing Service is a subscriber-based listing used by the 4,500 members of the Fresno Association of Realtors to help buy and sell property.

“It really makes you reflect on how much we rely on technology,” association CEO Dezmarie Hedrick said. “It’s been a challenge to shift the way in which we communicate listing data. But in a way that’s kind of brings back, you know, the old way of communicating.”

“The old way” includes phone calls, or even stopping by another Realtor’s office.

“It’s not as efficient as we’re used to, but there’s still a way in which it can be done, considering that’s how we did it 20 years ago. Realtors are resilient. They always find a way,” Hedrick said.

Although things may be more inconvenient, Hedrick says business is continuing as usual.

Westlake Village-based Rapattoni Corporation manages the technical side of the MLS database.

“Their production network is experiencing technical difficulties, which is causing a temporary disruption to certain computer systems,” Hedrick said. She did not have more details on exactly why the system is down.

KGET-17 in Bakersfield reported that the Bakersfield Association of Realtors Rapattoni-managed MLS is also down, hit by a cyberattack. There are also reports of disruption in Cincinnati.

Calls by GV Wire to Rapattoni were not returned before the publication of this article.
