Authorities said Tuesday morning that a Fresno Police Department officer was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence and false imprisonment late Monday afternoon.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office identified the officer as Devin Franco of Fresno.
“Franco spent three hours in Fresno County Jail on Monday and was released after posting bond,” said sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti. “His bail was set at $40,000.”
Franco is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Feb. 21, Botti said.
The suspect has been a Fresno police officer since 2018, Lt. Bill Dooley said in a news release. Franco also is accused of committing two misdemeanors: child endangerment and making harassing phone calls.
Following a day-long investigation, the 30-year-old officer was arrested, jailed, and placed on paid administrative leave. The officer also surrendered his firearms and other department-issued equipment, Dooley said.
Dooley said the suspect came on the department’s radar after a woman called 911 requesting a welfare check on the officer, whom she had previously dated and with whom she has a child. The domestic violence accusation included the notation that the woman had “visible injuries.”
“The Fresno Police Department is committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of our community who we are proud to serve,” Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama said in a statement. “Our transparency and professionalism are both integral parts of this commitment. When our personnel are accused of criminal acts or wrongdoings, we will always conduct a thorough and accurate investigation to ensure accountability.”
