â– Mike Oz wraps up his 12-year “Ozmosis” run on radio.

â– Fresno’s Hilary Haron launches a new women-focused podcast.

Jose “Gonzo” Gonzalez is headed to Sacramento. The now-former program director and host at 1430 ESPN Radio in Fresno left the station last week, to become program director at Sactown Sports 1140 AM in Sacramento.

“I’ve loved my time here. Fresno born and raised. This is home. Through the hard times and the great times everyone here has had a hand in my growth. Thank you! Excited for my next radio chapter,” Gonzo wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

His last show was on Feb. 8.

Another radio vet joined the management at 1430’s parent company, Fat Dawg 7 Broadcasting. Enrique Loera became VP and general manager for the station group — which includes ESPN Radio 1430 and ESPN Radio 790.

Loera previously worked in sales at the iHeart Radio group in Fresno for 11 years.

“I’m looking to propel this cluster to new heights,” Loera said. “The main goal is to provide the Fresno market the best sports content possible, both national and local.”

Loera plans to add new talent to the stations and increase their digital presence.

“Content is king,” Loera said.

The sports station group is the local affiliate for the Giants, A’s, 49ers, Rams, Raiders, Sharks, and Lakers. The station also carries several high school sports.

Ortega to the Zoo

Jennifer Ortega is trading TV news for the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.

Ortega left KSEE 24/CBS 47 in December, after two years of reporting in the Central Valley. She is now the new spokesperson for the zoo.

“Working for the zoo will allow me to share the good work being done conserving our wildlife and help save endangered species all around the world,” Ortega wrote on her Facebook page.

Mike Oz Finishes Radio Show

Mike Oz, the former national baseball writer turned food truck promoter, brought the curtains down on his long-running radio show Sunday.

“Ozmosis” aired its farewell show, after 12 years and 629 episodes on New Rock 104.1. The show featured new music and local bands.

Oz, who real name is Mike Osegueda, moonlighted hosting the Sunday night radio show. He wrote about baseball for Yahoo Sports! until that job came to an end. Oz transitioned to promoting food trucks around town, through his company, Fresno Street Eats.

“It was my decision. After some changes to the show at the start of the year, I felt like it was best to end it on a good note after 12 years,” Oz told Media Man.

KMJ’s Christopher Gabriel Wins

Congratulations to KMJ morning host Christopher Gabriel, winner of the RTNA of Southern California Golden Mike Award for best radio sportscast in its division. It is the first Golden Mike for a KMJ sportscast in the station’s 100-plus-year history. The station has featured legendary sports voices such as Bill Woodward and Paul Loeffler.

The station is also up for “Best Newscast Under 15 Minutes” for its radio division. The awards take place on March 30.

Former Car Dealer Haron Starts Podcast

Hilary Haron, whose family owned a well-known Fresno luxury car dealership for decades, launched a new podcast.

“A Road Less Traveled” debuted last month. Haron spoke with SCCCD Chancellor Carole Goldsmith in the first episode.

Haron said she launched the podcast “to shine a light on the incredible journeys of women navigating male-dominated industries. I hope that these stories will inspire, empower, and foster a more inclusive and enlightened future.”

Last year, Haron Motor Sales — in operation since 1945 — was sold to Unstoppable Auto Group. Haron was best known for selling Jaguars, Land Rovers, and Volvos.

The podcast can be found in several locations, including YouTube.

Curiosity drives David Taub. The award-winning journalist might be shy, but feels mighty with a recorder in his hand. He doesn't see it his job to "hold public officials accountable," but does see it to provide readers (and voters) the information needed to make intelligent choices. Taub has been honored with several writing awards from the California News Publishers Association. He's just happy to have his stories read. Joining GV Wire in 2016, Taub covers politics, government and elections, mainly in the Fresno/Clovis area. He also writes columns about local eateries (Appetite for Fresno), pro wrestling (Off the Bottom Rope), and media (Media Man). Prior to joining the online news source, Taub worked as a radio producer for KMJ and PowerTalk 96.7 in Fresno. He also worked as an assignment editor for KCOY-TV in Santa Maria, California, and KSEE-TV in Fresno. He has also worked behind the scenes for several sports broadcasts, including the NCAA basketball tournament, and the Super Bowl. When not spending time with his family, Taub loves to officially score Fresno Grizzlies games. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Taub is a die-hard Giants and 49ers fan.
