Fresno police arrested a 22-year-old man in the shooting death of 20-year-old Deisha Guzman at a Hampton Inn on Sunday morning.

According to a police department news release, Guzman’s boyfriend, Christopher Jordan shot and killed her while mishandling his Glock model 19 handgun.

After interviewing Jordan, officers arrested him for involuntary manslaughter and negligent discharge of a firearm on Sunday evening. He was booked into Fresno County Jail, where his bond totals $15 million.

Officers responded to the hotel in the 300 block of East Fir Avenue after receiving a call about a gunshot victim. EMS took Guzman to Saint Agnes Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 9:41 a.m.

Alleged Shooter Changed His Story

According to investigators, Jordan said that Guzman accidentally shot herself. But, after further questioning, he admitted firing the gun and striking Guzman, who was on a couch.

Jordan told the officers that he believed the Glock was unloaded because he had removed the magazine before handling the gun, according to the news release.
