Twenty-six-year-old Garry Perry received a life sentence without the possibility of parole on Thursday for murdering two men and trying to shoot another man in 2017 in Fresno’s upscale Woodward Lake area.
Evidence presented at trial showed that Perry shot and killed Brennen Fairhead and Scott Gaffney in a drug deal that went sideways among friends in December of that year.
Perry also shot at Michael Rackley, who ran from the scene. During the trial, Rackley said that Gaffney was trailing him closely when bullets from Perry’s gun dropped Gaffney to the ground.
“Honestly, I think if Scott wasn’t running right behind me, I would’ve been shot,” Rackley said on the witness stand, according to ABC30’s trial account.
Fresno police arrested Perry the next door as he tried to enter Fairhead’s home.
A Fresno County jury needed just four hours last month to render a guilty verdict at Perry’s trial.
Fresno County chief deputy district attorney Deborah Miller prosecuted the case. She was assisted by Fresno PD homicide detectives and DA’s investigator Michelle Veneman.
