FOLSOM — California corrections officials are investigating an inmate killing Saturday at a high-securing facility housing 1,900 inmates in Folsom.

Camilo Banoslopez, 22, was killed Friday after an attack launched by four other inmates, officials with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said,

Four Inmate Killings Since End of April

He was the fourth California inmate killed since the end of April.

The killing follows slayings Tuesday, May 3, at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad and Thursday, May 5, at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano. In addition, inmate Alfredo Valenzuela, 50, was killed Saturday, April 30, at the Delano prison.

Banoslopez was arrested as a juvenile in San Bernardino County and was serving eight years for robbery and inflicting great bodily injury during a gang attack, officials said.

Attackers Have Long Criminal Histories, Gang Ties

He was killed by Albert Calvillo, 30, Irvin Rodriguez, 36, Osbaldo Velasquez, 38, and Jose Avila, 39, officials said. All four have convictions as gang members and are serving lengthy prison terms.

Avila’s criminal history includes an 11-year sentence last year for a prison assault.

Rodriguez’s criminal history includes separate convictions for a prison assault and making a deadly weapon while in prison.
