Rain Friday night and into Saturday morning is expected in Fresno and other Valley locations north of Kern County, the National Weather Service says.

In addition, snow is expected in Lake Tahoe and other Sierra locations as multiple storms arrive in that region over the next seven to 10 days.

The Valley rain will be light — one-tenth to a quarter-inch — but welcome with California again mired in drought. And the expected 10 to 18 inches of snow from the Sierra storm will boost a snowpack that was 38% of normal on April 1.

“Winter weather is not done yet,” weather service officials in Reno said. “The pattern we all probably wanted in mid-winter is here. … We are so pleased to welcome the precipitation, but need to be cautious in our optimism for accumulation.”

Winds gusts of up to 60 mph are possible in the eastern Sierra, the NWS said.

Up to a Foot of Snow in Yosemite

The NWS office in Hanford said in its Friday morning forecast discussion that a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Sierra above 6,000 feet from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The higher elevations of Yosemite National Park could see up to 1 foot of snow.

The longer-range forecast says there is a possibility of rain next Thursday and Friday in and around Fresno.
