Lee Ann Eager of Fresno became chair of the California Transportation Commission on March 1 — making her the head of an agency that approves about $7 billion annually for roads, passenger rail, transit, bike lanes, and sidewalks.
Politico’s Debra Kahn posed several questions to Eager about transportation in the Golden State — including whether to suspend the gas tax — for a story published Wednesday.

Eager said that her big focus is on equity and safety throughout the state and not just in the big coastal cities. As president/CEO of the Fresno County Economic Development Corp., Eager is well aware of the challenges that San Joaquin Valley and Inland Empire communities face in obtaining equitable transportation funding.
