Justice Sotomayor Is Hearing Arguments Remotely Because Neil Gorsuch Refuses to Wear a Mask

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is phoning into oral arguments from her office rather than sitting on the bench with the other eight justices. The reason appears to be over the refusal of Justice Neil Gorsuch to wear a mask in the chambers.

In a statement, Sotomayor and Gorsuch are both denying the story … partially. While the statement denies that Sotomayor asked Gorsuch to wear a mask, NPR is reporting that the chief justice asked him to; Gorsuch, however, appeared on the bench without one.
