Bruce Lion, Heir to the Lion Raisins company, was released on bail Thursday morning after allegedly violating a domestic violence protective order.

Fresno police officers arrested Lion, 62, on Wednesday at the home of his ex-wife on North Van Ness Boulevard.

Lion had violated a restraining order, according to the Fresno Police Department. The arrest follows another incident at the same address on Tuesday. Fresno police did not arrest Lion that day, however. Because the incident was domestic violence-related, a police spokesman said that he couldn’t release further information.

Lion’s Checkered History

In September, Lion was arrested by Monterey County sheriff’s deputies for allegedly throwing rocks at cars and assaulting construction workers and deputies along Highway 1 in Carmel Highlands.

In that case, he was jailed on charges of asault, false imprisonment, resisting arrest, and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm.

Calls made by GV Wire to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office seeking an update on that case were not returned. Neither Fresno police nor Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies would say whether they knew about the Monterey County charges.

In 2019, Lion violated the terms of a previous restraining order by possessing a firearm and making threats. ABC30 reported in 2019 that Lion received credit for time served in jail. He also received two years’ probation, which was shortened by seven months, ending in January 2021.

Court Records Show Lion Pays $94K a Month in Spousal Support

The restraining order came after Lion’s legal separation in 2018. Lion’s wife was given possession of three vehicles, including a BMW, a Porsche, and a GMC Denali, according to court records. She was also given “exclusive use and control” of the home on Van Ness Boulevard and one at Shaver Lake. In addition to the property, Lion was ordered to pay $94,395 a month in spousal support.

Lion is listed as an “administrator” at Lions Raisin on his LinkedIn. The Selma-based raisin company was started in 1903. Lion’s father, Alfred Lion Jr., is listed as president and CEO.
