Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, has announced the introduction of daily “sensory-friendly hours” in all its stores across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
The initiative, which begins Friday, will see the stores dim their lights, switch off the radio, and change their TV walls to a static image to create a less stimulating environment for customers with sensory processing issues, such as autism, ADHD, and PTSD. The hours will run from 8 to 10am local time each day, with no planned end date. The move follows a successful pilot of the program over the summer.
The initiative is part of a broader trend towards more inclusive shopping experiences for people with sensory issues.
