Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., introduced legislation Thursday that would require the American Israel Public Affairs Committee to register as a foreign agent under the Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1938, the Daily Caller reported.

Massie said the bill, H.R. 8809, would subject AIPAC’s lobbying and political activity to Justice Department reporting requirements. The congressman, a longtime critic of AIPAC and U.S. support for Israel, said lobbying tied to foreign countries should be disclosed.

The bill comes as Massie faces a Republican primary challenge backed by President Donald Trump. Groups supporting challenger Ed Gallrein have spent millions on advertising in the race.
