Kern County authorities arrested two Lamont men Saturday after deputies discovered hundreds of pounds of stolen copper wire.
Rodrigo Garcia, 20, was riding a stolen motorcycle while pulling a suitcase containing about 100 pounds of copper wire on the 7700 block of Buena Vista Boulevard. Garcia attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. Juan Cachu, 43, was also taken into custody.
Detectives from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Rural Crime Investigation Unit assisted with the case and executed a search warrant at a nearby residence, where deputies recovered an additional 200 pounds of commercial-grade copper wire.
Both Garcia and Cachu face charges including possession of stolen copper wire and conspiracy. Garcia also was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest.
Both were booked into Kern County Jail.
