A 31-year-old man was arrested Wednesday following a violent domestic incident, the Fresno Police Department told GV Wire.

According to police, officers responded to a local hospital shortly after 3:30 p.m. to a report of a domestic violence incident involving a dating partner. Officers learned that the suspect, Reno Diego Gatti, allegedly struck the victim on the right side of the face with a lug wrench, causing nausea and a loss of consciousness.

After the victim regained consciousness, authorities said the victim was struck on the left leg by Gatti and dragged into a bedroom.  Once inside, the victim attempted to call a relative, but Gatti allegedly took the phone and prevented the call.

Victim Escapes

The victim was ultimately able to escape while the suspect was using the restroom and later positively identified Gatti to officers, leading to his arrest.

According to the arrest records, Gatti was booked on multiple felony charges, including kidnapping, robbery, false imprisonment with violence, assault with a deadly weapon not involving a firearm, corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant with prior incidents, and criminal threats.

He also faces a misdemeanor charge for damaging a wireless communication device.

His bail totals $170,000.

Authorities did not immediately release additional details about the victim’s condition.
