Fresno police arrested 10 drivers for suspected impaired driving during a DUI checkpoint on Saturday night.

The checkpoint ran from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Clinton and Weber avenues, where officers contacted 322 vehicles. In addition to the DUI arrests, 34 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a valid license or with a suspended or revoked license.

Police said DUI checkpoints are set up in locations with high rates of impaired-driving crashes to promote public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the roads.

Funding for the operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The next DUI checkpoint in Fresno is scheduled for April 3.
