Fresno firefighters rescued an elderly woman from a residential fire Friday afternoon in the 2100 block of N. Antioch Avenue.

Crews responded just after 12:30 p.m. and found smoke billowing from the home, the Fresno Fire Department said in a statement.

Fresno firefighters assisted the woman as she tried to climb out a window and called a second alarm for additional resources due to the developing conditions inside.

The woman was treated at the scene before being transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and injuries from broken glass. Firefighters faced hoarder conditions inside the home, which complicated access and suppression efforts, but were able to contain the fire to the room of origin.

Authorities determined the fire was electrical in nature. Fire officials emphasized the importance of functioning smoke alarms for early warning and life safety.
