A recent environmental health inspection at Madera Community College means the food pantry can now distribute protein to students in need.
The expansion for Maddie’s Food Pantry means the college can store and distribute meat, eggs, and dairy and will help provide food security to students. Adding the necessary flooring, commercial refrigeration was a years-long process, the college said in a news release.
Shortly after receiving the clearance, the Madera County Food Bank delivered nearly 5,000 eggs and a variety of dairy items, already distributing them to students.
“Thanks to the hard work of our campus team led by Jenny Saklar, pantry coordinator, our students were able to receive their first access to free egg protein,” said Dr. Ángel Reyna, president of Madera Community College.
“We are looking forward to accessing more milk, eggs, and meats with the generous donations from college supporters, ensuring our students can focus on their studies and successfully graduate.”
