The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office announced the passing of Sgt. Jason Whelen, who suffered a medical emergency while on duty Tuesday.
Despite immediate response efforts by fellow deputies and medical personnel, Whelen died, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Whelen began his career with the sheriff’s office on Oct. 15, 2007, and was promoted to sergeant on Feb. 25, 2013. Throughout his tenure, he served the community with dedication and professionalism, earning respect for his leadership and compassion.
Colleagues described him as a devoted husband and father of four who was known for his kindness, steady leadership, and positive attitude. The sheriff’s office noted that he was admired for his commitment to service and his ability to uplift those around him.
“Our thoughts are with Sergeant Whelen’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time,” the sheriff’s office statement read. “The Sheriff’s Office mourns the loss of a respected leader, a valued partner, and a cherished member of our law enforcement family.”
The agency asked the community to keep Whelen’s loved ones and sheriff’s office personnel in their thoughts as they grieve the loss.
