Four people were killed and one critically injured early Sunday after a vehicle fleeing deputies crashed at Highway 99 and Avenue 17, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office said the driver, Juan Perez Quezada, 25, and passengers Benito Mendoza and David Daza Perez, both 15, and Stephen Rodriguez, 13, died in the crash.
Authorities said their cities of residency and relationships to one another were not immediately available.
Around 1:10 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to multiple reports of subjects breaking into vehicles near El Vado Drive and Avenue 18 ½.
A vehicle matching the description provided by reporting witnesses fled at high speed and later lost control, colliding with no other vehicles.
The driver and three passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth male passenger was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.
