A 33-year-old Indiana police officer was shot and killed Monday night while responding to a disturbance north of Beech Grove High School in Marion County, authorities said.

Beech Grove Police Officer Brian Elliott was fatally shot during the response, according to a statement shared by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office. Another officer was injured in the incident, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux asked the public to join him in sending prayers to Elliott’s friends and family.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office said its members are keeping Elliott’s family and the men and women of the Beech Grove Police Department in their thoughts and offered their sincerest condolences.
