Ukraine has reported a successful attack on the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in the Crimean city of Sevastopol, resulting in numerous casualties, including high-ranking officials. The operation, named “Crab Trap,” is a significant demonstration of Ukraine’s determination to target Russian facilities in the disputed region of Crimea.

The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces announced the attack via Telegram, stating that the operation was meticulously planned and executed with precision. The strike was timed to coincide with a meeting of senior Russian Navy officials. However, no specific names or casualty numbers have been released, and CNN has not independently confirmed the claims.

Sevastopol, the largest city in Crimea, was unlawfully annexed by Russia in 2014. Ukraine remains hopeful of regaining control over the region.

The Ukrainian forces have not provided any additional details or evidence regarding the casualties among Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. Russia’s Ministry of Defense has only confirmed that a Russian soldier went missing following the missile attack, which caused significant damage to the naval HQ and scattered debris over a large area.

This attack is the latest in a series of strikes against Russian facilities in Crimea, including a military airfield at Saky and a missile attack on the main dry-dock and ship-repair facility in Sevastopol.

Following the attack, Ukraine’s Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksii Danilov, warned that the Russian Black Sea Fleet could be vulnerable to future strikes.

Ukraine’s targeting of Crimea is part of a broader strategy to disrupt Russian logistics, fuel, maintenance, and command centers, thereby hindering their ability to supply the front lines.
