Visalia Man Charged in Fatal Apartment Assault

Prosecutors have filed murder charges against a 28-year-old Visalia man in the killing of a Myrna Otherson, 75, of Visalia,  District Attorney Tim Ward announced Friday.

Miguel Camacho is accused of driving his car through the gates of an apartment complex on Wednesday then banging on doors and attempting to gain entry to several units, according to the district attorney’s office.

When the victim opened her door, Camacho allegedly attacked her and stabbed Otherson repeatedly. She died a short time later.

Authorities said Camacho was taken into custody soon after in the apartment complex and was unknown to the victim.

Camacho is charged with one count of murder with special allegations that he used a deadly weapon, was armed with a deadly weapon, that Otherson was vulnerable and that his conduct was violent.

He is also charged with making felony criminal threats and felony vandalism, with special allegations that he used a deadly weapon, was armed with a deadly weapon and that his conduct was violent.

An arraignment is scheduled for Friday afternoon in Superior Court, where a future hearing date will be set. If convicted of all charges, Camacho faces life in prison.
