Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina responded Wednesday after President Donald Trump called him a “loser,” taking aim at Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller amid growing Republican criticism of immigration enforcement, Newsweek reported.
The dispute comes as lawmakers face a Friday deadline to fund the Department of Homeland Security and debate possible limits on Immigration and Customs Enforcement following two fatal shootings in Minneapolis this month.
Noem has faced calls to resign after Alex Pretti, 37, and Renee Nicole Good, 37, were killed by federal immigration agents. Tillis and Sen. Lisa Murkowski have joined Democrats urging her removal.
