A man was killed Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash involving heavy fog on Clovis Avenue in Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The collision was reported around 7:30 a.m. on Clovis Avenue south of Golden State Boulevard, according to a preliminary investigation.
Investigators said a 40-year-old man driving a 2021 Freightliner was traveling northbound on Clovis Avenue and attempting to make a U-turn to head southbound when an unidentified adult male driving a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup southbound in the No. 1 lane collided with the trailer.
Authorities said heavy fog and the Freightliner making a U-turn within the intersection contributed to the crash. After feeling the impact, the Freightliner driver pulled to the right shoulder with the pickup truck lodged underneath the trailer.
The Chevrolet S-10 became engulfed in flames while beneath the trailer, and the driver sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner reported no injuries. Investigators said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors, and the crash remains under investigation.
