A driver suspected of fleeing a hit-and-run crash in western Fresno County turned himself in after authorities sought the public’s help through social media, the California Highway Patrol said.
The head-on crash occurred Tuesday at the intersection of Fowler and Davis avenues near Laton, causing major damage and moderate injuries.
CHP said the driver fled the scene and alcohol was a suspected factor. Despite an extensive ground and air search, the suspect was not located at the time, authorities said.
On Wednesday, the driver contacted CHP and surrendered. He was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
Authorities said the driver had been operating recklessly and ignored traffic laws before fleeing the scene, adding that leaving a crash and driving impaired carry serious consequences.
