A 21-year-old Exeter man was arrested Saturday after police say he crashed into multiple vehicles, led officers on a pursuit and fled on foot before being caught.

Visalia police said officers working a retail-theft detail with the department’s H.O.P.E. team saw a vehicle swerving in the 2700 block of West Monte Vista Avenue just after 5:30 p.m. The driver crashed into two parked cars and continued without stopping.

Officers tried to pull the vehicle over, but it failed to yield, police said. The pursuit continued to Avenue 280 and Road 156, where the driver ran a red light and struck another vehicle. The suspect ran from the crash but was quickly apprehended.

The driver of the vehicle that was hit suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Police identified the suspect as Robert Cunningham, 21, of Exeter. He was booked into the Pretrial Facility on suspicion of evading a peace officer, hit-and-run causing injury, DUI causing injury, resisting an officer, possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended or revoked license.
