Hanford police arrested a 36-year-old woman Tuesday for allegedly stealing more than $55,000 from an 81-year-old man, authorities said.

Police said Irais Angel, of Hanford, who had worked as an in-home caretaker for the victim’s wife, began cashing checks belonging to the man after the woman died.

Investigators say the alleged financial abuse occurred over 11 months.
