Nineteen drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during a Fresno Police Department enforcement operation on Saturday, authorities said.

Police said those charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver’s license.

The department plans to conduct another DUI enforcement operation on Saturday, Nov. 15, along with additional patrols and checkpoints throughout the year aimed at keeping roadways safe.

Funding for the enforcement program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
