The Fresno Police Department will conduct DUI patrols on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., targeting drivers suspected of being under the influence.
Police reminded the public that impairment isn’t limited to alcohol — certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can also affect a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely.
Officers also cautioned that while marijuana use is legal in California, driving under its influence remains illegal.
Those arrested for a first-time DUI could face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver’s license, police said.
Funding for the enforcement effort comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
