The Fresno Police Department will hold DUI patrols on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., targeting drivers suspected of operating under the influence.
Police reminded the public that impairment isn’t limited to alcohol. Certain prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as marijuana, can affect driving ability, officials said.
While medicinal and recreational marijuana use is legal in California, driving under its influence remains illegal.
According to police, a first-time DUI offense can result in an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended driver’s license.
The patrols are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
