The San Francisco 49ers seem to get beaten up more and more every week, and they’ve left their Week 4 battle with the Jacksonville Jaguars in worse shape than they entered it.
On Monday morning, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media and provided injury updates on quarterback Brock Purdy, who missed the previous two games with a toe injury, and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who appeared to suffer a knee injury during the game.
Shanahan stated that Purdy complained of toe soreness this morning, and that they’ll need to evaluate the issue throughout the day. With the quick turnaround on Thursday, there’s a chance that the 49ers decide to let Purdy rest and give either Mac Jones (who is also injured) or Adrian Martinez the start against the Los Angeles Rams.
As for Pearsall, Shanahan said that the wide receiver may have a minor PCL injury, which could keep him out of this week’s matchup.
San Francisco’s injuries are really piling up. If Purdy and Jones both can’t start, the 49ers may have to start Martinez and sign another quarterback to the practice squad to be the elevated backup. And, they could be throwing to a group led by Demarcus Robinson, Kendrick Bourne, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore if Pearsall, Jauan Jennings and Jordan Watkins can’t go.
