Avocado Lake Park officially reopened Thursday morning after serving as a make-shift home for fire crews combating the Garnet Fire, which has burned nearly 60,000 acres.
With containment now at 89%, the crews and their equipment have moved to the new Harlan Camp in Clovis. The fire, which lightning sparked on Aug. 24, has proven difficult to suppress.
Nearly 1,900 personnel continue to battle the wildfire. Garnet Fire officials will host a virtual community meeting at 6 p.m. Friday to provide an update on the current situation and address questions. Send questions you would like discussed at the meeting via email to 2025.garnet.ca@firenet.gov
Park Open Again for Recreation
Now, the lake is resuming its normal operating hours, open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
County officials are encouraging residents to return to the 210-acre park offering swimming, fishing, and picnicking.
Avocado Lake Park is at 3625 N. Piedra Rd. near Sanger. The entrance fee is $5 per vehicle.
